Effective contraception is vital in the prevention of unplanned pregnancy, avoiding short interpregnancy intervals, and reducing abortion rates, especially among high-risk groups associated with poor pregnancy outcomes. Long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) such as Implanon, intrauterine devices, and intrauterine systems are proven to be the most effective contraceptive methods and have been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) that universal access to LARCs for ALL women be made a priority. Implanon offers vast advantages such as long protection, safety for most women, reliable reversible method, rapid return to fertility, and value for money. Main barriers that can affect the usage of Implanon include lack of access, cost, misconceptions, and fear of side effects. Investing in Implanon offers benefits beyond contraception and improves women’s health, socioeconomics, and the productivity of the family and nation.
